【摘要】This study examines the impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 on the economic assimilation of Chinese immigrants. The act prohibiting the entry of new Chinese immigrants caused institutional discrimination against Chinese. Using IPUMS U.S. Census micro-sample from 1850 to 2000, we show that Chinese immigrants assimilated significantly slower and had less human capital accumulation in the Exclusion period. We also find that Chinese immigrants invested more in their children's human capital and committed less crime in this period.
