【摘要】There have been increased expectations about the role of the minimum wage as a policy to reduce inequality around the world. In the United States, most of the workers who earn at or below the minimum wage have been either low-educated, young, or female since the 1980s. In light of this fact, this paper examines the presence and extent of heterogeneity in the impact of the minimum wage with respect to education, experience, and gender and evaluates the implications of the minimum wage for the wage structure under such circumstances. We find a substantial heterogeneity in the impact of the minimum wage in the lower tail of the wage distribution and confirm the presence of the spillover effect in the United States.
