【摘要】How do college students choose their majors, and what role does family play init? I use data from two major longitudinal surveys to develop and estimate a modelin which students learn about earning opportunities associated with different majorsthrough the wage realizations of older siblings and parents. The probability of astudent choosing a major that corresponds to the occupation of a family memberstrongly correlates with the wage of the family member received at the time themajor choice is made. This correlation arises not only through family-correlatedabilities but also through a family-based wage information channel
