【摘要】This study estimates the effects of resource allocation on educational inequality using Chinese provincial panel data. The generalized method of moments is used to avoid bias arising from the omitted variable and serial correlation in the residuals. Results show that increasing educational expenditure, increasing teachers' educational attainment, raising student/teacher ratio in colleges, and reducing that ratio in junior high schools can lower the education Gini coefficient. The findings provide new evidence of the causes for educational inequality, which also shed light on public policies, especially those implemented in large developing countries such as China.
